Privacy policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

This policy explains what we collect when you use TurnitinUSA, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

1.Who we are

TurnitinUSA (turnitinusa.com) lets you check a paper for similarity and AI writing and download the reports, on our website and through our API. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean TurnitinUSA. You can reach us at support@turnitinusa.com.

2.Information we collect

  • Account details: your name, your email address and your password. Passwords are stored only in hashed form.
  • Documents and results: the files you upload for a check (with their name, size, type and word count), the settings you choose, and the scores and PDF reports we return.
  • Text you humanize: the text you submit to Humanize and the rewritten result.
  • Purchases and balances: what you bought, the amount, the payment method type and the payment reference, your check and word balances, and codes you redeem. Card details are entered with our payment processors and never reach us. For crypto payments, we record the network, amount and transaction ID, which are public on the blockchain.
  • API use: if you create an API key, we store a hashed version of it and a few of its first and last characters (so you can recognize it), with when it was created and last used.
  • Technical information: like most websites, our servers and service providers record details such as your IP address, browser type and the requests you make, for security and to keep the service running.
  • Messages: what you send us through the Help chat or by email to support@turnitinusa.com, and our replies.

3.Your documents and results

When you run a check, the document you upload is sent to our checking partner, which processes it to produce your Similarity and AI-writing scores and reports. Our checking partner may retain uploaded documents and results under its own policies, and deleting your TurnitinUSA account does not remove copies it holds. Please don’t upload anything you aren’t comfortable sharing on these terms.

We keep a copy of every document you upload and of every report, and your check history stays in your account until you delete your account, so you can come back to them.

Text you submit to Humanize is processed by our rewriting partner to produce the result. We keep your text and the result with your account until you delete your account.

4.How we use information

  • To run checks and Humanize requests and show you the results.
  • To create and secure your account, and to sign you in.
  • To process purchases, keep your balances accurate and issue refunds to your balance.
  • To answer support requests and send messages about your account, such as password resets.
  • To prevent fraud and abuse, and to keep the service reliable.
  • To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

5.How we share information

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run TurnitinUSA:

  • with our checking partner (documents you check) and our rewriting partner (text you humanize);
  • with payment processors, to take payments and handle refunds and disputes;
  • with the providers that host our website, database, file storage and email;
  • when the law requires it, or to protect our users, the public or TurnitinUSA;
  • with a successor, if TurnitinUSA is involved in a merger, sale or similar transaction.

6.How long we keep information

  • Account details: for as long as your account is open.
  • Reports, check history and Humanize results: in your account until you delete your account.
  • Uploaded documents and report files: we keep a copy, including after you delete your account.
  • Purchase records: as long as we need them for accounting, tax and fraud prevention, which can be longer than your account.
  • Support conversations (Help chat and email): kept so we can follow up and keep a record of your requests.
  • Copies held by our checking partner: under its own policies, as described above.
  • Technical logs: for a limited period, for security and troubleshooting.

7.Cookies

We use cookies that are needed to keep you signed in and to keep your session secure. We don’t use advertising cookies.

8.Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and hashed storage for passwords and API keys. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of information you send us. Keep your password and API key private, and tell us at support@turnitinusa.com if you think your account has been accessed without your permission.

9.Your choices and rights

  • You can change your name and password at any time in Settings.
  • To get a copy of your information, correct it, or delete your account, email support@turnitinusa.com from the address you signed up with.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have other rights over your personal information. Contact us and we’ll respond as the law requires.

10.Children

TurnitinUSA isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

11.Changes to this policy

We’ll post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know by email or on the site before it takes effect.
